The weather is finally heating up and summer is just around the corner!

With more sunny days and a nice long summer vacation from school, there are lots of fun summer activities for kids and families to enjoy! Here are some ideas for the best family summer yet!

Go to the local farmers market: Support your local farmers and get outside by visiting a farmers market. You might find food you don’t typically see at the grocery store and your kids can get excited about picking out unique produce.

Have a park day: Visit a local park with a bag of frisbees and soccer balls. Don’t forget the sunscreen!

Send your kids to summer camp: Summer camps and day camps are a great place for kids to socialize, learn, and have fun during the summer. Watch out for local sports camps, VBS camps, or other opportunities for your kids to go play with other kids and do some fun activities! We’ve got camps this summer at in , sign up today!

Go on a hike: A hike is a great way to get outside, enjoy nature, and get some exercise in as well! You can visit the AllTrails website to find a trail near you.

Throw an ice cream party: An ice cream party is a great way to cool down during the summer months. Grab some ice cream and popsicles from the grocery store and let your kids pick out their favorite ice cream toppings. We love rainbow sprinkles, chocolate chips, and whipped cream!

Do a sidewalk chalk art show: Crack out the sidewalk chalk and make your driveway an artistic masterpiece! Have an art show and hand out different awards to the art (best colors, most creative, silliest art, etc).

Go to the zoo: The zoo is a perfect place to visit on a summer day with your family. Make a bingo board of the different animals you’ll see for extra fun! For your older kids, allow them to dictate the map and see how many animals they can see in a short amount of time.

Pack a picnic: Pack a bag full of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, or go extra fancy with a picnic basket and a full spread of food. A family picnic can be as simple or as fancy as you make it.

Go to the pool: Visit your local pool or splash park. Don the swimsuits, pack the pool noodles, and put on your swim goggles. The pool is a great place to cool off (or kick back and read a book on a lounge chair)!

Visit your local library: If you want to beat the summer heat, visit your local library for a day of reading. Many local libraries will host summer reading programs where you get rewards for reading a certain number of books or reading for a certain amount of time.

Have a water fight: Cool off in your own backyard with a water fight! Load up a bucket with water balloons, squirt guns, and a hose! You can take it to the next level with a DIY backyard slip and slide!

Plan a nature scavenger hunt: If you want a laid back hike, plan a nature scavenger hunt. Give your kids a list of everything they need to find and send them hunting. We especially like photo scavenger hunts to capture the memories. You can print a nature scavenger hunt list, or make your own based on what unique wildlife is in your area.

Set up a bird feeder: Speaking of nature, don’t overlook the animals in your own backyard! You can set up a simple bird feeder outside a window to see what kinds of birds you have around. If you want to invite more birds into your backyard, consider setting up a birdhouse as well!

Go camping: Camping is a great way to get out of the house and enjoy a plethora of outdoor activities. If you don’t have a way to camp at a campground, your backyard can be just as fun! Set up a tent, throw in some sleeping bags, and make flashlight animals on the wall of the tent.

Evening bike ride: Many great memories have been made during a family bike ride. Pull out your bikes and helmets and take a trip around the block, to the park, or evening to a nearby ice cream shop!

Run a Family 5k: If your family is the active type, consider running a 5k together! There are plenty of 5k races that are designed for families, and some of them even have fun themes where you can dress up or run through obstacles!

Plant a garden: A backyard garden is a great way to teach your kids about ecosystems and how plants grow. You can plant flowers, herbs, or even some easy veggies! And we’ve found that kids who grow their own vegetables are more likely to eat them!

Visit an amusement park: If you have an amusement park or water park nearby, this can be a great way to make a special occasion from a summer weekend! Whether your family likes roller coasters, water slides, or just eating funnel cakes, there is something for everyone!
